Data review with marks

Review rounds in Excel: marks carry over, changed rows come back.

Data review goes in rounds: the same listing every week, and you want to look only at what is new or changed without losing your "reviewed" marks. This tool keeps the marks in your own Excel workbook, so they carry over between exports from any EDC.

How to use it

  1. First round. Upload an export of a form or listing and download the review workbook. Its first columns are Reviewed (✓), By, Date and Comment, followed by the data.
  2. Review in Excel. Put ✓ (or any mark) on the rows you have reviewed. Write comments in their column.
  3. Next round. Upload the new export together with the last workbook. The mark stays on rows whose values did not change. On changed rows the mark is cleared and you see exactly what changed. New rows are added for review. Rows that left the export go to a separate sheet.

Rows that changed after they were marked reviewed are flagged separately. These are site corrections to data you had already checked, so look at them closely.

Key and columns

A row is identified by its key (site, subject, visit, form, line). The key is found automatically or taken from the last workbook, and you can set it by hand. System columns (last modified, export date) do not clear marks by default. Numbers compare by value.

Try it

Example files: vs_2026-09-26.csv, vs_2026-10-03.csv. Upload the first file and download the workbook. Put a mark in “Reviewed” on a few rows, save, then upload the second file together with that workbook: your marks stay on unchanged rows and drop from the changed ones.

Sources

Nothing is stored on the portal. The marks, who reviewed and when, and the reviewed values live in your workbook. Keep it the way you keep study exports. This is a DM working tool, not a 21 CFR Part 11 audit-trailed system: official review flags belong in the EDC.
